Although the Government accept that the process and experience for transgender people applying for Gender Recognition Certificate needs to be improved they appear to have skirted around key concerns and made a token number of changes which are unlikely to make the process significantly better.
The Government have announced that they intend to place the whole procedure online and reduce the fee from £140 to a nominal amount. Given the significant waiting list at NHS gender clinics, they plan to open three new gender clinics this year which they hope will see the wait times cut significantly and will lead to greater patient choice, shorter waiting times and better geographical coverage and easier access.
