Amongst the global panic that Covid-19 has produced, there has been a surge in Will enquiries across law firms who provide this service.
Sinclair Law are pleased to be able to provide this service in order to support those who are understandably worried about the challenges that Covid-19 presents and ensure that their wishes are met should the unthinkable happen.
It is important that despite the outbreak, Wills are signed and witnessed properly so that they are valid.
All Wills must be signed by the person making the Will (the testator) in the presence of two witnesses who are not going to benefit from the Will and who are over 18, who also sign the Will in the presence of the testator.
Given the current social distancing rules, this is not as simple as it was before.
But Sinclair Law are here to help make sure you can still make a valid Will.
Initially, we can take Will instructions remotely over the phone, email or by video call.
We can then arrange for your Will to be properly signed and witnessed from the safety of your home, with our staff watching you do so from outside a window or on a driveway so that social distancing can still be complied with. You can then watch us witness your will in the same way.
Alternatively, you could come to our office in a car and remain in your vehicle and comply with the requirements in our car park with our staff outside your vehicle acting as witnesses.
A final option is if you have two people living with you who meet the requirements of witnesses.
They can witness your Will with our guidance, and we may ask that you video record them doing so, so that we can be sure that your Will is valid.
