Divorce Law In The UK – A Brief Overview
A divorce is a way to legally terminate the marriage relationship and will only be allowed if certain guidelines are first met.
Both parties need to have been married for at least one year and you must be able to demonstrate to the court that your relationship has permanently broken down.
There are five ways that you can show this to the courts:
- Adultery
- Behavour
- Desertion for more than two years
- Separation for two years or more with the other person’s consent
- Separation for five years or more without the other person’s consent
