Family Mediation Week takes place this year between 17-21 January 2022 to raise awareness of the benefits of family mediation and how it can help separating families manage their issues productively. Keeping Family Matters out of Court- what does the future hold?
Justice secretary Dominic Raab speaking to the House of Commons said he wants to do something ‘drastic’ to stop up to half of family law cases reaching court. He said cases involving safeguarding and domestic abuse, which make up between 50%- 60% of the total, should continue be heard by a judge. Improvements to the way the family court responds to domestic abuse announced
Domestic abusers – not their victims - to be moved from the family home? In response to calls from charities and campaign groups, councils in England have been considering measures to provide housing for domestic abusers, allowing victims to remain living in the former matrimonial home. Privacy v Transparency in the Family Court
A recent report on transparency in the Family Courts has led to the conclusion that change is needed to the current system. At present, when a journalist attends a Family Court hearing, they cannot usually publish anything about the hearing. The President of the Family Division, Sir Andrew McFarlane has stated that this is not sustainable going forward.
